Vauxhall Combo lacking power - should I remove the DPF?

My Vauxhall Combo van is suffering from a loss of power and black smoke. The engine light is also on and no garages can solve the problem. I have a suspicion that the DPF is not doing what it should, can I have it removed?

It sounds like it will be the DPF and it may be possible to have it cleaned out using the Ceramex process at a Unipart or Alliance car centre. The engine may also be overfuelling and it is vital to get this checked. if the sump level is too high then the engine could start running on its sump oil and blow up.
