Bought a Toyota Corolla which broke down on the drive home - what should I do?

I bought a 2004 Toyota Corolla Verso yesterday for £4000. Sadly the car broke down on the drive home, with the gears slipping into neutral and refusing to engage. Can you please advise what should I do?

You could take small claims court action against the person who sold it to you for breach of contract. Start with www.moneyclaim.gov.uk Otherwise, if it's the actuator at fault, this could be an expensive repair: £2000. Worth getting it checked by a member of www.fedauto.co.uk
