Unreliable handbrake on Vauxhall Corsa

My daughter in law has a 2012 Vauxhall Corsa, which has been suffering with a dodgy handbrake for a few weeks. Yesterday, the car rolled into the vehicle in front and caused damage. The main dealer claims this has never happened before, however the internet is full of examples of this failure, can Vauxhall be held responsible for the damage caused?

Yours is the first report of this I have received so I don't see how "the internet is full of examples of this failure". The Highway Code instructs drivers to engage a gear when parking. Do not trust the parking brake alone.
