Toyota refuse to fit non approved tyres - can I do it without voiding my warranty?

I own a new Toyota Auris Hybrid and I want to fit steel wheels with 195/65/15 tyres to replace the current alloys with 225/45/17.

My local dealer has told me this is not possible, so I have contacted Toyota customer relations who has said, it cannot be done. This seems like nonsense to me, as lower spec Auris Hybrids have these wheels. Can I fit the wheels myself, or will this affect my warranty and insurance?

They are telling you that they are not allowed to fit these wheels to the car because the specific model is not EC Type Approved with them. But because they are fitted to lower spec Auris hybrids which are otherwise identical there is nothing to stop you doing it yourself. However, you do have to disclose the 'modification' to standard wheels to your insurer.
