Which tyres will improve the ride on my Jaguar X-Type?

I want to improve the ride on my Jaguar X-Type. The obvious choice would be to the replace the 225/40/18 tyres with something a bit fatter to soften the ride. Which wheels and tyres would you suggest?

Have a look at X Types on 16-inch or 17-inch wheels. The 16s will probably have 205/55 R16 tyres; 17s 215/45 R17s.
