Air conditioning not working

The air conditioning system on my 2009 Ford Mondeo has failed. I took the car to my local independent garage and they carried out a diagnostic test, which gave fault code P0535.

Ford Technical was consulted and said this was the temperature sensor in the evaporator which needed to be changed; this will involve removing the dashboard. However, the independent garage thinks it might be the wiring.

My experience of main dealer dashboard removal is not good - too many wires and connectors are disturbed causing continuous faults. What would be the best course of action? The independent has never removed a dash or seen the code before.

Well yes the code is indicating the sensor at fault( or maybe the wiring/poor connections).

Given that the local AC specialist said it could be wiring we would suggest that the wiring be checked first. As for removal of the dash, if the local garage is competent and you feel happy with him, then go with him completing the work (should be cheaper than the dealership) But always ask what the cost will be first.
