Tax is invalid on my used car

I bought a car from a dealer on April 25th. The tax disc on the car shows 30/6/13. I never received a reminder through the post so I went online to order a tax disc from the start of next month, but the system claims the car has been unlicensed since 13th April 2013 AND that I could be contacted by one of the fraud team.

The original tax disc is still on the car and says 30/6/13. Please can you shed some light on this situation? I'm very concerned as I've never broken the law in my life.

Yes. What happens is that if a tax disc is bought at a post office and the cheque used to buy it bounces, the tax disc is rendered void. So you have a disc on your windscreen, but it is not valid.
