Cam belt failed when a pump was replaced.

Had a repair for the diesel pump on my Audi A6 after the car broke down. Garage said on restarting the engine that cam belt went. On top of bill of approximately £2000 for pump repair am now faced with £3000 for engine repair. The car has done 140,000 miles and cam belt was replaced at 80,000 miles. Is the cam belt failure related to faulty repair of diesel pump or just bad luck?

If the cambelt failed at 140k miles after replacement at 80k miles it failed at the end if its life. It should have been replaced when the diesel pump was replaced. Foolish to re-use a £30 belt when failure can cause £3,000 of damage.
