Can this air conditioning fault on my Mercedes-Benz 600 be fixed cheaply?

I own a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 600 SEC. My local Mercedes-Benz dealer refilled the air conditioning gas and I was informed that there was a fault on the compressor cylinder which would cost around £1000 to replace. Can you recommend anyone who could replace it at a reasonable cost?

It may actually need no more than a compressor clutch, costing around £100. There's a list of air conditioning specialists here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/air-conditioning/
