Does transferring a car to a new owner cancel SORN?

Last year the DVLA registered me as the new keeper of a 1936 Alvis. The car was at the time registered on SORN which was due to expire nearly a year later. I contacted the DVLA's Enforcement Centre where I was informed that when the car was transferred to me, the SORN was automatically cancelled. I could find nothing on either the V5 or V11 stating that if you transfer a vehicle while on SORN this will be automatically cancelled. Your many readers may find this useful to know.

I was not aware of that either. If you think about it, administratively it is obvious. But not many people would automatically think that way.
