I don't want speed cushions outside my house - what can I do?

Our local council is proposing installing speed cushions on the estate were we live, with one planned right outside our house. What is the best way to stop this waste of money?

Point out that the percussion of vehicles traversing them sends vibrations through nearby buildings and that you will sue and demand underpinning if any cracks appear in the walls of your house. Mention that pedestrians have broken legs tripping over them, people have been flung from vehicles and killed and, of course, when humps can't be seen under a layer of snow, they can cause passing vehicles to slide into cars parked sat the roadside.
