Did you know that traffic lights in France are linked to radar to stop you speeding?

I recently saw something I have never seen before: an honest approach to dealing with speeding that is motivated by road safety rather than revenue collection. Driving in France along a straight stretch of road leading out of a small town with a 50kmh limit there were radars linked to traffic lights. If you went too fast the radar turned the light red and stopped you for a while. No fine, just a delay and some annoyed motorists behind.

I first saw that in a town called Benisa in Spain in 1983. I've been attempting to promote it ever since, but because there's no money to be made out of it I just get ignored.
