What could be causing this gearbox fault in my automatic Citroen Picasso?

I have an intermittent fault with a 2006 Citroen Picasso 2.0i Desire automatic and wonder if you have come across this before I place the car in the hands of a Citroen dealer. Occasionally, and with no common situation, the 'automatic gear fault' warning comes on and the auto gearbox jumps and stays in what appears to be second gear. I stop, engage 'park', switch off the engine and then restart, and all is fine for the remainder of the journeys on that day. If and when it does occur it will happen within five to ten minutes of starting for the day. The garage that normally services the car can find nothing with its diagnostic computer system - but does say that Citroen will have its own system. Any help before I spend hard earned money would be greatly appreciated.

If this is a Xsara Picasso with the 4-speed torque converter box then could be a sticking servo valve in the valve box that controls the gear changes. Go to a member of www.fedauto.co.uk
