Which cars are affected with DMF and clutch faults?

I have friends who own a Vauxhall Insignia and they have already had the DMF and clutch replaced once. You have indicated that there are other cars likely to be affected with this problem. Can you please let me know which they are so that I can avoid them, and do the manufacturers involved intend to do something about it?

Virtually every 4-cylinder diesel from around 2001 has been fitted with a dual mass flywheel. Some are longer lived than others but failures are not consistent. The best way to avoid them with a diesel is to buy a diesel with a torque converter automatic transmission. So far Ford has managed to achieve the same effect with engine management, so avoids fitting a DMF to the current Fiesta ECOnetic.
