Why did my automatic Hyundai i10 suddenly accelerate for no reason?

Last week, when preparing to leave my parking space in a car park, on putting my automatic Hyundai i10 into ‘drive’ it shot forward at alarmingly great speed, completely out of control. By great good fortune, no one was crossing my path by foot or car, and no other parked cars were in my way. It travelled through a car parking spot in front of me, across the car park's road, through another car-parking space until it was stopped by a post on the pavement, bending the post and crumpling the whole front of my car. I write to ask if you or anyone knows of any other such incident in this model, in which case, please let me know as soon as possible.

This totally due to driver error. You pressed the accelerator with your right foot, thinking it was the brake. If you left-foot braked then what you describe could not have happened, which is why I continuously advocate left-foot braking an automatic in all situations involving manoeuvring.
