Which small SUV?

I wish to buy a SUV as I spend the winter in the highlands of Scotland. My budget is £27k.

The shortlist, in no particular order is: MINI Countryman SD ALL4 manual - Skoda Yeti Elegance 4x4 - Mazda CX-5 Sport.

I shall spend 80% of the time alone in the car. Fuel economy is a major factor. The car will be a diesel.

Having road tested the cars I like the Mazda but I am very concerned at the levels of depreciation on Mazda models which seem high at around 20%, but it's not listed in the Glass's Guide.

The MINI depreciates around 10% yet the Yeti second hand values are initially higher than the new price.

My question is: Do Mazdas depreciate quicker than other models?

If Glass's can't tell you the answers why would I be able to? Skyactiv is not sufficiently tried and tested. But a CX-5 is cheaper to buy spec for spec, handles a lot better and is slightly more economical than a RAV-4 or a CR-V. Think 46 - 37mpg from the 150. I like Yeti 1.8TFSIs. Don't like VAG's 2.0 diesel. Don't reckon on more than 50mpg from a Countryman SD All4. We only got 50 out of a MINI Coupe SD.
