CR-V petrol or diesel?

For some time I've been looking for a CRV EX preferred petrol up to 3 or 4 years old without success. What problems would I face if I bought a diesel? My annual mileage is about 8000 consisting mostly journeys of 6 miles from my village to town and a weekly 20 mile blast up the M40.

If it's a CR-V 2.2iCTDI no problem because no DPF. If it's a 2.2iDTEC then repeated short runs from cold have been known to clog the DPF.

What 4x4 with a decent MPG, which can carry two large dogs in the boot space, for a budget of £5000 would you suggest? I travel roughly 7000 miles per year, mostly on B roads and occasional dual carriageways.

Roomy and versatile. Very comfortable, pleasant and relaxing to drive. not at all cumbersome. 2.2 i-CTDI diesel is excellent.
