Replacing my parents' Focus?

My parents are intending to replace their 2002 Ford Focus with something larger and more comfortable. A high driving position is preferred but not essential and it is likely that the car will be run into the ground rather than sold on and replaced.

Purchase price is not a major concern but value for money over the predicted life of the car is. They don't cover many miles a year and so a Petrol would probably be best and I'd thought that a used Skoda Octavia might be a good idea. It seems to be quite good value although it lacks the higher driving position.

Please could I have your recommendations on models as well as the price or age ranges that we should be looking at?
