Passat or Focus?

I'm considering a 2.0-litre TDI MK6 Passat (about 2-yrs old) and a 2012 Focus. (A) Does the Passat have quality issues that will prove costly and (B) Does the Focus have a poor economy as many reports suggest and lastly (C) which is likely to be the better car for long term ownership please?

The post 2011 Passat is much better. For the 2005-2011 Passat see the entry in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar Which Focus? I averaged 55mpg (genuine) over 8,000 miles in a 2008 Focus 1.6 Econetic 110. A Focus will be cheaper to maintain.
