Will cam belt failure damage the engine on my Panda?

My Fiat Panda 1.2 Dynamic petrol 2006 is due for a cam belt replacement. The garage have told me that if it goes, it will damage the engine. (which I thought too) However, some forums suggest that model has the FIRE (Fully Integrated Robotised Engine) engine fitted, which will not be damgaed by a belt failure. Please confirm if this is the case and whether my car has the FIRE engine fitted.

Only the 999cc FIRE engine is non interference. The 1,242 is interference. I got that from an Italian FIAT engine specialist, so believe it.
