Revs not falling immediately when lifting off the gas

When taking my foot off throttle and depressing the clutch to change gear, there seems to be a delay in the revs falling in my Honda Jazz.

If I delay changing gear and hold the clutch down the revs fall to 1000 then down to idle at about 600, but will often rise back up to 1000 before finally falling to idle. Has been to Honda main dealer who checked it out - no error codes showed up. They took it for a test drive without me present, and stated all was well.

I don't feel all is well however, and my wife experiences the same effect also. It is making smooth gear changes difficult. A similar problem exists when starting off from rest with it being difficult to get the revs at the right level.

On moving off the revs drop as if it is going to stall so you press the throttle and the revs suddenly surge and you do not have a smooth move off. Makes it difficult to move off smartly.

Take the car for a long run of 50 - 100 miles and see if it settles down. Might just be due to too many short runs and the engine is over-revving to completely burn the fuel in it and reduce emissions.
