What used estate/mpv; diesel or petrol would you recommend?

We are looking for a large estate/mpv for daily commute of 26 miles round trip the majority of which is on motorway/dual carriageway. Fuel economy, yet good motorway crusing speed and space is important; latterly to carry camping gear and bikes for holidays to southern France, logs for stove & dog.

We have a 2010 Fabia 1.2 TSi to trade in with 25K miles and can add up to £15k. TSi has been disapointing for fuel economy compared with our 1999 Skoda Octavia, 1.9 TDI which regularly gives 45 mpg around town and 60 mpg on motorway - and will be kept until it dies.

Currently looking at Skoda Superb, VW Passat, Renault Scenic or Citroen Berlingo. Aware of diesel problems, but also TSi petrol has been rubbish. We tend to keep our cars for ten years. Would welcome ideas and suggestions.

If you can get hold of a Scenic with the new Renault 1.6DCI 130 engine, that's the one to go for.
