Can a 2012 Honda CR-V be fitted with 16in wheels from 2006 model?

HJ has frequently maintained that downsizing the wheel for a winter tyre is a good move. My wife's new Honda CR-V SE+ DTEC has 17x6.5in rims with 5x114 stud holes, shod with 225/65 R17.

I want to put on a 16in wheels from a 2006 CR-V, which has same stud pattern. I would then shoe it with 225/70R16 tyres which are a lot cheaper. Honda spare parts won't say it can be done, there is a set of alloys on eBay which would be good value.

How can I find out if the brake and hub size on my present car can accept the wheel from the previous model?

No. The minimum wheel size for the post 2006 CR-V is 17in. Do not go down smaller than that. (18in are also okay on the CR-V, but 19in are hopeless.)
