Disc parking zones

Are there any special rules regarding the signage to indicate where these zones are? A local market town has just set them up, as I have just found out.

There is a sign into town which can be bypassed if you approach from business park as I did. Then no signs until you are well along the high street and then they are 20-30 metres apart, 3 metres from the ground on shop walls, easily missed.

Also do you think £50 fine is excessive and lawful?

If this is street parking then failure to comply is a decriminalised motoring offence and all you can do is appeal to the adjudicator.
