Rough sounding brakes!

We recently bought a high(ish) mileage (80,000) two year old Golf Bluemotion from Car Giant supermarket. The brakes have always been a little squeaky, however after a 300 mile journey back from The Lake District yesterday they sounded dreadful this morning when leaving the house.

It didn't sound like just a little surface corrosion rubbing off but something more serious, after driving a couple of miles the mysterious noise has once again gone. I looked at the discs and pads for signs of wear but both seem to have lots of meat on them.

Surface rust from standing overnight being rubbed off by the pads. But as the car gets older and oxidation takes hold, particularly of the rear discs, this will get worse.
