Real MPG - Hyundai i10 1.2

I recently bought a brand new Hyundai i10 1.2. I've done 1100 miles so far and I'm really disappointed with its fuel consumption. It's getting 40-43mpg. It should be 50mpg urban and over 60mpg combined.

I phoned dealer and was told the engine is tight, and that I should wait 1500-2000 miles - and by then, it should improve. But now I'm worried I've been ripped off. It's my first new car, and the fuel economy advertised on this car was one of the reasons I bought it.

Can any one help or give me advice please?

I got 50mpg out of a bigger i20 with the same engine, so you should eventually too. Obviously you won't get this over a succession of short runs from cold. You will only get 50+ on long runs.

www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/hyundai/i10-2008 shows an average of 44.1mpg.
