When were DPFs introduced?

When were particulate filters introduced? Does it vary acceding to Manufacturer?

Not compulsory until January 2011. Most had them by mid 2010. All needed then for EU5. Some needed them for EU4. None needed them for EU3. They were sometimes optional so you can't be sure. But were never fitted to VAG 1.9 diesels.
