Which brake dust repellent?

I have bought some Simoniz brake dust repellant alloy wheel cleaner 2-in-1 formula. It is a spray. A friend has advised against using it as he says it will ruin the brake pads. Is he right? I have thought about putting some cardboard behind the wheel in front of the brake calipers to avoid spray getting on them. Please can you advise? The car is brand new.

I don't know. Depends on the composition of the product and the pads. But obviously what you propose to do should prevent any damage to the callipers, pads or discs. Simoniz is generally a good brand. It's interior cleaner always used to be best of the lot. Even removed congealed black engine grease from velour.
