Faulty Mazda RX8 - dealer refused to take back

I bought a Mazda RX-8 from a local dealer 5 months a go and last week when I took it its first long run it developed a major fault, engine light came on and I decided to turn round and get the car back home to get it looked over by a garage. Shortly after coming off the motorway the car started to smoke from the inside as if its on fire.

I had to call out the fire service due to the smoke and they discovered that the car was so hot that the carpets were melting! They advised me to take the car back to where I bought it. I tried to do that this this weekend, after writing to them to formally reject the car.

They refused to take the car and document and kept telling me that I had to prove it was faulty and provide a report.

What do I do next? As no car should melt the interior carpets, especially in the first 6 months.

Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ To use Clegg you would have to prove that the car was faulty from the day you bought it. You say you took it for its first long run after buying it 5 months previously. If you were merely taking an RX8 for short runs from cold starts and pottering about in it, then that could well have contaminated the oil and destroyed the rotor seals.
