My MGF won't start in the rain

I have owned my MGF for a long while but recently it will not start in the rain, so I have to shut the fuel off and turn it over - then it fires up and then quickly I have to reset the fuel stop in the boot!

I don't know whether this has anything to do with it but when warmed up the engine runs at 1500 revs tickover. I have been to three garages and they all say different except price will be min £500!

Not sure of the relationship between the start up and the fuel shut off.
Your model does suffer from damp starting, so would suggest that you check the Plug leads and change them if in doubt. (Best to replace with Bosch magnecor if possible).

As for the idling problem - check all the air intake/ vacuum system for any leaks, if ok then check the idle air control valve.

When you say the garage are quoting £500 have they said what this is for?
