Unusual tyre wear on a BMW X5

I have a BMW X5 4.0d from new, bought in September 2010. At the first service, today, I am told that I need four new tyres at 18,800 miles. They are Continental 285/45 R19 run flat. Can this be right?

My last X5 did 40,000 miles on the original tyres. I am a very careful driver and have not caused this premature wear myself.

Normal tyre wear for huge low profile tyres on an X5. www.event-tyres quotes £285.65 for Continental runflats this size. I doubt you'll beat that.
