Failure of wiper mechanism on Combo not covered by warranty

I have a Vauxhall Combo Van 1st registered March 2011 with 13,800 miles. It came with a 60,000 3 years manufacturers warantee. I bought it as an ex demo from the dealer in Aug 2011. The wiper mechanism is broken and Vauxhall customer service says it is not covered under the warranty. They say it is wear and tear! Vauxhall customer service went very assertive very quickly and searching the net is is clear that it is a regular problem with the corsa.

Manufacturers often resist this after there has been snow because many drivers overload the mechanism trying to wipe snow off their windscreens, or try to use the wipers when they are stuck to the screen by frost. Be aware of this, and if this is not the reason for your failure, push harder, threatening small claims action for "not of satisfactory quality".
