Air conditioning servicing

I've had a letter advising me to have my 60 Astra's air conditioning serviced - is it really necessary after only 18 months and 10000 miles? I don't recollect my 05 Astra ever having an air conditioning service in all the 5 years I owned it and it seemed to work ok (the filter may have been changed at some stage). I only covered 30000 miles and I must admit I didn't always remember to use the air con every week. This seems to indicate that my present air con shouldn't need servicing yet.

As long as you run the a/c for 10 minutes a week every week of the year it self-services. But they do eventually start to lose refrigerant, and what they are talking about here is in effect nothing more than replacing the lost gas.
