Buying a new small car - what would you recommend?

My wife is thinking about changing her 55-reg Audi A3 1.6S E with 65k. She normally goes for a similar used VWG model around £9000, but this time was thinking of downsizing to see if she could go to a new smaller car, annual mileage soon dropping to 7k. Preferences are auto, chain cam, street cred and a good warranty, but it also needs to be nippy, as the Audi is flat. Could you suggest some models for her to consider?

Hyundai i10 1.2 auto, Kia Picanto 1.2 auto, Mazda2 1.5 Activmatic probably best. That's fun to drive.
