Road traffic alert systems

I have used a Trafficmaster Freeway unit for many years, it is a low cost, efficient way of receiving traffic alerts. I have been informed that this unit will not be supported after June 2012.

Two alternatives are being offere - an expensive GPS unit or an annual payment app for a smart phone. I don't want either of these alternatives.

Do you know of a low cost alternative to the Freeway unit?

I have had this topic on the Back Room forum, other drivers are in the same situation as me, but no one has come up with a viable solution.

No. There isn't one. The alternatives are those offered by Trafficmaster. It can't make money from Freeway because there are too few subscribers so it is shutting it down.
