Lights out

This winter, with dark rush hour mornings and evenings, I am appalled at the number of drivers who have seriously faulty lights. I see them in the dark mornings so presumeably they also return home in the same state. Also cyclists with dark clothing or maybe, if you are lucky a yellow body jacket. When they indicate a change of direction you can't see which way the arm is pointing. Are they hell bent on an accident?

Headlights out are usually because of the inaccessibility of headlight bulbs. It is ridiculous that, with its obsessions over Type Approval, the EC has not insisted that it must always be possible for the driver to replace all bulbs. But heavy lobbying means the EC prefers to legislate expensive new equipment into cars rather than make them more practical for drivers.
