Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall

Could you please remind of the advisability of leaving winter tyres on the car all year? I have a Volvo XC70 with the two fronts coming up for replacement (the rears only around half worn). Would it sensible to consider winter tyres (all round) and leaving these on permanently? We have planned a trip to the South of France next May so will be going to higher temperatures than normal Scotland!

You can leave compromise 'all weather' tyres such as Bridgestone A001s on all year round. But cold weather 'winter tyres' designed for 8 degrees or below are not best suited to road surface temperatures of 60 degrees in the summer.
