Wheeler deals

I drive a 2008 BMW 116ES, 1,596cc. Annual mileage: 4,000miles. Last winter I had a bad experience when I went into a very bad spin on black ice and snow. I managed not to hit anything, but I had to abandon the car for 5 days before a neighbour kindly drove it very gingerly down the hill. I was snowed in twice. People have been suggesting that I should buy a small Suzuki Jimny, but I would like your advice on whether a set of winter/snow tyres would be better buy?

BMW dealers offer them already fitted to a set of steel wheels for between £700 and £900 for this model. At least, they did in the autumn. Not sure of the supply situation now. Definitely recommended.
