Where can I sell my eight-month-old BMW Z4 for a reasonable price?
I bought a top-of-the range BMW Z4, and with the Comfort package it cost me over £43,000. I unfortunately became unwell and had to surrender my driving licence. I went back to the dealer I purchased it from and his best offer was £27,000. The car is eight months old and has only done 1,995 miles. This drop in value of more than 37 per cent makes a mockery of the salesperson’s assurance that BMWs hold their value. Of course, he made it in August last year before I had actually committed myself to buy the car.

Your alternative is to try www.sure-sell.info, putting a reserve of £28,000 on the car to cover you for the auction commission and simply hoping you get a better bid. I can't give you 'book' price because you did not tell me exactly which Z4 this is. However, the very highest original price for a Z4 sDrive 35i was £34,850, so you must have loaded the car with £8,000 of extras to get it to £43,000 and this is never a wise thing to do to secure a good resale value. That said, July 2001 trade book for a 10-reg Z4 sDrive 35i with metallic paint, leather and satnav is £30,025.
