Please recommend a replacement for our Renault Laguna with generous load space and good performance in snowy conditions?

We have a mixed bag of needs for a replacement of our 11-year-old Renault Laguna, which is a bit of a workhorse. We're thinking along the lines of a medium-sized estate, something we can throw skis, boots, walking boots, rucksacks and camping equipment into without being too fussy. We're based in the Languedoc in France, where we run a B&B in the summer, so something with a reasonable load space and easy to load would be good, which would also take our medium-size dog (20kg). In winter, we live at 1,800m in Andorra, where we work as ski instructors, so something with good road holding - although not necessarily 4WD, as we always fit snow tyres. The car will be garaged in winter, and we've found that diesels don't seem to like altitude too much. Is there anything leaping out at you for us?
