A good car for 4000 miles a year to France

I do about 4000miles in short trips around town and 4000 in France on two holidays a year.I need some pointers for another car to do the following--automatic,boot large enough for golf gear and trips to the tip with garden rubbish, doesn't strain at motorway speeds, rear passenger space sufficient for two grandchildren, 30mpg+. You do not like diesels for this sort of mileage so it looks like petrol/hatch.budget up to £25000 for new or nearly new with a bit of comfort/goodies for an oldie.

I'd look at a Mondeo. The only problem is that Ford has released photos of the 2013 Mondeo that is so much better looking than the curious current facelift version. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/mondeo-2013/

Maybe also an Audi A4 B8 1.8TSI or 2.0TSI Multitronic: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/audi/a4-b8-2008/
