Skoda Octavia LED problem

The high level LED brake light on my 54 plate vRS Octavia Estate ceased to function recently.

My local garage, who have serviced the car since I acquired it in 2007, couldn't access it and referred the matter to the Service Dept. at Skoda Leicester.

Apparently as it is situated within the rear plastic spoiler and the only solution is to remove the spoiler from the tailgate.

The problem is that the spoiler is glued in place onto an alloy surface and any attempt to remove it could easily break or damage the spoiler and/or damage the paintwork to the tailgate. It is not known whether there is an electrical connection problem or failure of the LED unit at this stage.

This really is very frustrating, and wondered if Skoda feel in any way responsible? A new LED is £68 plus VAT and labour, but the total cost could be rather more. I am told this is also a problem on some other VW Group estates.

Design problem, but quite an old car now to expect help from Skoda. I'd scout some forums for an independent fix. Have added to the car by car entry.
