S-Type DPF regeneration

To retire with I searched for and eventually found an immaculate Jaguar S type 2.7 diesel, just out of warranty, at a quality independent dealer.

Soon after, at just over 40k miles, the DPF failed. My local Jaguar garage - Taunton Jaguar, told me such failure was very unusual and the unit is not a part that can be serviced. It seemed that the DPF had probably never been re-generated properly from new. I paid over £1k for a replacement unit, but at such a low mileage and just beyond warranty, I fully expected some support or assistance from Jaguar to whom I wrote. Result a very polite "NO" Is this typical of Jaguar and do you think it reasonable for a quality car manufacturer?

This is fairly typical of S Type 2.7 diesels, especially those used for repeated short runs from cold starts. There is a lack of understanding at dealerships about how the Eolys assisted regeneration works. You'd be better off consulting a Peugeot or a Citroen dealer as they are more familiar with the engines they supplied to Jaguar/LandRover.
