You can read our guide to the best small cars for new drivers here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/guides/small-cars/best-first-.../ as well as our picks of the best small automatic cars here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/guides/small-cars/best-small-.../ The Hyundai i10 is a good choice as it surprisingly spacious inside for something so small on the outside, is easy to drive and depending on specification is as low as group 1 insurance. Both the Toyota Aygo and Yaris are also good choices, but it is worth bearing in mind that the Yaris is bigger than the Aygo, which means more space and a more refined driving experience, but is also likely to be more expensive to buy and insure. Also all of these options are capable of dealing with winter weather - a small car will always be more susceptible to high winds than a larger car, but this is something you will get used to with experience.
