What tow car is also suitable for short journeys?

I tow a 1500kg caravan but in the main only do short local trips with odd longer journeys. What vehicle do you recommend? I'm retired and cost is an issue.

You don't mention your budget, but the issue you may have is that diesels generally have a higher towing capacity than petrols, but a diesel car is not well suited to mostly short local trips as this may cause problems with the DPF. We would suggest looking at cars like the Honda CR-V, which in 2.0-litre manual form can tow up to 1600kg, or the Ford Mondeo Estate which in 2.0-litre petrol form can tow up to 1800kg, and you can find examples of both these cars for under £10,000.
