Why are my rear brake pads wearing out so quickly?

I have a Ford Focus ST Line 2018 with the quick release hand brake. It's covered 50,000 miles and I've had three lots of rear brake pads. Now I need another set - is this normal?

Clearly there is an issue with the rear brakes as rear pads should not be worn out at this rate. The rear brakes likely need adjustment although this is something that should be carried out when new pads are fitted. If you use the automatic function of the handbrake on a regular basis you may wish to try pressing the button to release the handbrake, which may reduce wear, but that shouldn't cause you too get through this many sets of brake pads after just 50,000 miles.
