Can I permanently disable lane keep assist?
I have a new Kia Sportage which has Lane Assist. This can ONLY be manually turned off when you get above 40mph. I was recently driving in our country lanes and the car pulled me into the verge as the centre line was in the middle of a very narrow road. This caused me to hit the washed out area/pot hole on the verge and damage the tyre.
I asked Kia if Lane Assist can be permanently disabled as we do not use the car on motorways, but it seems this is not possible. They have stated that the car can not be modified as it supposedly an "Integrated Safety System". But how can it be a safety system where it PULLS you to one side of the road dangerously into pot holes. UK narrow country roads do not need Lane Assist.
Kia UK state that they will not do anything. Is this a law stating that Lane Assist is now a LEGAL requirement?
Manually doing the switching off every journey is a pain and sometimes you forget, but only notice it is on when the car starts pulling you over.
Do you have any ideas how and if this can be PERMANENTLY disabled? We find it a dangerous feature not a safety feature.

Since July 2022 newly-launched models sold in the EU are required to have lane assist as well as other safety systems such as intelligent speed assistance and automatic emergency braking, and as part of the post-Brexit agreements between the UK and EU the same legislation applies. Because these systems are mandatory Kia will not permanently disable the system, but the majority of manufacturers allow the systems to be turned off each time the vehicle is started.
While it technically may be possible to have the system permanently disabled by an independent specialist, this would need to be declared as a modification to your insurer as it alters a system that is required by law.
