What nearly new EV do you recommend?

My wife and I are looking at purchasing an EV for the first time to replace our 2017 BMW X1. After reading your helpful EV guide we seek recommendations for a shortlist of 3 or 4 vehicles/models to consider. I think our spec would include minimum range 300 miles, minimum on board chargers 250Kw DC and 11Kw AC, size no bigger than BMW X1 with room for baby seat in the rear, high driving position, 4 doors plus hatchback. As for price and quality - in the ballpark of a BMW/VW of small/medium size.

If you're looking for something similar in size, it might make sense to simply opt for the BMW iX1, which is based on the U11-generation X1, which replaced your current car in the BMW range in 2022. The range of the eDrive20 is up to 293 miles, however, it's some way short of your charging target, offering 130kW top-ups. If charging rate is especially important, also consider the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which manages up to 350kW. The Volvo XC40 Recharge splits the difference at 200kW. Whether or not you achieve any of these will depend on various environmental factors and whether you've used the car's pre-conditioning feature.
