Been offered a car with EU plates. What are the implications?

I have been offered a Mini Cooper 06 plate, registered in Republic of Ireland. I am in GB. What are the implications of transferring the registration of the car to the UK. Are there any charges I should be made aware of? Is there an import tax payable as the owner has not transferred the registration to this country?

VAT and Irish registration tax should have been paid, so all you will have to pay is the £50 UK first registration charge and the cost of a set of plates. But if the car is in the UK it will have to go back to Ireland, the sale will have to take place there and you will have to properly import it to the UK.
