Can we appeal an unpaid parking fine?

I have solicitors chasing me for an unpaid parking fine in Scotland. I have explained to the car park operator why the fine is unfair but to no avail. The parking fee was £2.00 which we thought we had paid via their website using mobile phone on site.
Two weeks later notified of non payment and fine now £100.00, discounted to £60 if paid promptly. Fine now £170.00! Choice in solicitors letter is pay fine of £170 within 7 days or attend court. What do you advise?

If you have made an official appeal against the charge to the car park operator but this has been rejected, you may be appeal to appeal via a trade body if they are a member. In Scotland these are the British Parking Association or the International Parking Community. If you believe you have a strong case and can evidence why the charge is unfair you may wish to challenge it in court - you can read more about appealing a parking ticket in our guide here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/advice/driving-advice/parking.../
